Angel of the North

3 Manchester Uni teams and 8 alumni sailors were greeted with very chilly and breezy conditions at the Angel of the North this weekend, hosted by Durham and Newcastle Unis at Derwent Reservoir.

Purple started strongly on Saturday, beating Yellow in their second race and only losing one race (which was a 4 boat team race due to a few broken boats). Yellow had a tricky Saturday, but managed to pull it back on Sunday in some well-fought 4 boat team races to end the weekend on 50:50 wins and 10th overall. Blue had a tricky weekend, racing in much breezier conditions than they have before at their first proper team racing event. They managed a win against ‘The Exiles’ – one of the Manchester alumni teams.
Purple continued their strong form on Sunday, losing only one race to ‘The Angels’ – another team with 2 Manchester alumni. This performance secured them a place in the semi-finals against 3 strong Scottish teams, where unfortunately we lost 1-2 in the closely fought semi and 0-1 in the petit-final. We were still happy with our result and a great weekend was had by all.

This weekend coming, Purple and Yellow are down at WKSC training with Newcastle Uni, putting into practice the areas we need to work on. Blue are off to the Loughborough Lemming at Burton SC where they are hoping for warmer weather and slightly lighter airs (Lorimer Macandrew /George Amies,  Pippa Cook /Alice Gaudet , Jack Creber /Ellie Thompson).
