There is a reason that Fireflies are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year, and the class is sailed at nearly every University in the country, and that is the craic! We love sailing!
The boats are relatively simple to sail but difficult to master, though West Kirby has produced many National Champions.
The National Firefly has been a class at West Kirby for over 60 Years and we race on Tuesday nights during the main sailing season . We pride ourselves as being the glue between the junior classes and the senior classes, we welcome openly younger sailors as crews and also get shown how to do it every now and then… Actually most of the time!

The (NFA) National Firefly Association can be found at http://www.fireflysailing.org.uk/index.php and we should all be members if we are sailing the class, though unfortunately this isn’t enforced around the country or really at West Kirby.. Firefly Dinghies are used for Team Racing as well as Fleet Racing and can be found at most universities across the Country. Liverpool and Manchester Universities are based at West Kirby Sailing Club and sail Fireflies. See Team Racing Pages
