Welcome to the WKSC Optimist Class!
The Optimist is the biggest youth racing class in the world with over 160,000 junior sailors in over 120 countries worldwide.
If you have a young new sailor that wants to learn and have fun you could not choose a better class for a young sailor to start their sailing journey. We invite our young members to join the Optimist Dolphins. These are organized training sessions for all levels that we run every season to help introduce our young members to the class. Optimist Dolphins
The Optimist Dolphins are on the water with the other youth classes on Friday evenings in the season. We are a friendly bunch and welcome any young member who wants to come down to the water to discuss the class and see all the smiles.

Intermediate and Advanced Helm
As a racing boat, the Optimist dinghy has the highest number of entrants at its National Championship of any class, junior or senior in the UK.
We have a solid fleet of about 7 Opi’s racing each Friday evening during the season and would welcome more new helms to come and join the fun and team spirit that we have have in our junior sailing at WKSC. We race a modified triangular course which is easy to understand and introduces helms to the skills of racing. Racing begins after the Optimist Dolphins have finished training.
