We have a thriving junior section and are always pleased to welcome new junior members. They are the club’s future and parents are encouraged to be involved in their children’s sailing activities. Friday night is Junior night from April to September. From the age of 8 upwards, junior members can develop their sailing skills in a safe environment in our fleets of optimists, cadets, fevas and mirrors.

We are an RYA Onboard hub and our aim is to promote sailing for young people whether they want to progress in competitive racing or would prefer to gain an RYA qualification and develop seamanship skills.

WKSC Training will be starting the Friday Evening RYA ‘Optimist’ Sail Training Programme for the ‘Green, Blue & Red Dolphin’ groups, on 3rd May, 2019. This 15-session programme is only open to WKSC Members with their own Optimist dinghies and enrolment in each group is dependent on ability.

There is no charge for the programme.

All Friday Evening ‘Dolphin’ Sessions run from 18:00hrs to 20:00hrs*. All sessions on the Lake are weather dependant; but if lake sailing is not possible, dry land training, sailing theory, rope-work etc will take place instead. Copies of the full Dolphin training programme are available on request

For those not yet old enough to take part in the Optimist Dolphin Programme, WKSC Training will be running the popular Saturday Morning RYA ‘Optimist’ Sail Training Programme for ‘Mini-Greens’ on 18th May, 2019 for children wishing to learn to sail Optimists. Sessions run from 1000 – 1230. This 7-session programme is only open to WKSC Members with their own Optimist dinghies.

There will be no charge for this training.

*Minimum age is 8

On successful completion of the mini green programme children may be offered the opportunity to progress their training by joining one of the Friday Evening Optimist Dolphin groups; but this will be dependent on performance and the availability of our volunteer RYA Instructors to support these sessions.
