‘Constellations’ Light Show by Studio Joanie Lemercier

The Liverpool City Region season will be launched with ‘Constellations’ by Studio Joanie Lemercier (https://joanielemercier.com/constellations/) taking place in West Kirby between Friday 18th and Sunday 20th October.  The display is an audiovisual presentation of artwork in the form of light projected on to a water screen measuring 30 metres by 15 metres on West Kirby Marine Lake. The location has been selected to maximise the experience of the audience in a setting which has minimal built environment as a backdrop to the installation.

The water screen equipment will be floated between the two jetties at the south end of the lake near to West Kirby Sailing Club, this will be pulled to one side each night to allow access for boat launches during the day.  The projector cabin, measuring approximately 2m x 2m, will be placed on the promenade on the site of the old baths. A generator will be positioned on the promenade and audio equipment will be placed on the slipway and removed each evening.  Overnight security will be in place from Thursday until Sunday.

Members of the public will be invited to view the installation from the slipway at the south end of the Lake near to West Kirby Sailing Club.  Stewards will be in place for the event and a number of Borough of Culture volunteers will assist with wayfinding from the centre of West Kirby.

A rehearsal will take place on Thursday evening at 19:00 with public viewing of the 16 minute installation at 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20.30, 21:00 & 21:30 on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October.

Engagement is being undertaken with local residents and businesses with regards to the event which is expected to attract Wirral residents and visitors from the wider Liverpool City Region to West Kirby.  A series of FAQs will be available at www.imaginewirral.com or any queries should be directed to cultureteam@wirral.gov.uk
